Farmers use only 41 percent of the state's developed water supply. The largest user of this water is the environment at 48 percent while homes/businesses use the remaining 11 percent.

In California, from 1967 to 2000, farmers have increased their crop production by nearly 90 percent, thanks in part to increased water management efficiencies and improved plant varieties.

The average California farm in 2005 registered $414,000 in sales, compared to $114,000 by their counterparts across the nation. 

The average farm size 345 acres, compared to the U.S. average of 444 acres.

 

There is approximately 9 million irrigated acres in California.
