The Council released the results of the 2007 Efficient Water Management Practices survey. The survey sampled m ore than 40% or 3.27 million irrigated acres in California. Data represents districts of varying size from less than 5,500 irrigated acres to over 450,000 irrigated acres. The report details the activities and achievements in farm water management that irrigation districts have accomplished implementing the Council's EWMPs. This report shows what has been accomplished and can be used to guide future investment into new water management projects.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
CONVEYANCE AND AUTOMATION
More than half of the systems represented in the survey that move farm water are either piped or concrete or concrete-lined canals.
More than 85% of the irrigated acreage represented in California have some type of system automation investment.
WATER MEASUREMENT
Almost 90% of the irrigated acreage represented in the survey receives water that is measured at the farm gate.
Approximately 2/3 of the irrigated acreage represented in the survey is investigating ways to improve water measurement technology.
Almost 90% of irrigated acreage represented in the survey utilizes volumetric pricing as a component of their water pricing structure.
DISTRICT TAILWATER RETURN SYSTEMS
Almost 2/3 of all irrigated acreage represented in the survey capture and reuse all or part of their tailwater.
COMMUNICATION
Irrigation districts regularly communicate with their farmers.
CONJUNCTIVE USE OF SURFACE & GROUNDWATER SUPPLIES
Where conjunctive use is appropriate, about 70% of irrigated acreage represented in the survey is actively engaged in a conjunctive use program.
DELIVERY SCHEDULING
Approximately 79% of the irrigated acreage represented in the survey does not have an on-demand type delivery system.
ON-FARM WATER MANAGEMENT SERVICES
Over 85% of irrigated acreage represented in the survey has access to technical assistance programs provided by the district.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
There is a demonstrated need for on-farm water use efficiency financial assistance programs.
